The humans were all standing, 12 in all, 4 warriors like this one, 4 officials, and 4 ministers. In the picture I have in the book Imperial China, there are no trees. The Sacred Way just passed through flat, open country. The book was printed only 8 years ago, copyrighted in 1992. Now it is tree lined and has grass borders. Lawns are fairly new to China, and China is becoming a major destination for a lot of Oregon's grass seed industry (report I heard on Oregon Public Broadcasting last spring).
