Xi'an was as dreary as Beijing. We just caught it on a bad day. This is a city of 6 million, and between the city and the airport (about an hour away by bus) is flat and fertile farmland. The corn harvest was just in, and the farmers were burning the stalks (defying the law), generating all this smog.
