When I saw this patch of bare trees, I thought maybe they were dead - possibly from 'getting salted' from a hurricane - that's when the storm pushes seawater into places that are normally freshwater.

Later., I learned the Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a conifer that sheds its needles in the winter. Perhaps this was a stand of Bald Cypress.
