I chose Jim Michalak's 'Toots' design for these boats.

I wanted a boat that was cheap and easy to build, could hold 1 very large adult or 2 large youths (say 300lbs) and was a rowboat (because a sailboat has a lot of parts and those parts drive the production costs up.)

With the 'Toots' design, I was able to build 3 10-foot rowboats for a cost of about $48 per boat. Not bad.
