We are having massive snowmelt and rain right now, yet the lake is still remarkably clear. This whole mountain range is volcanic and the lake was actually formed when a lava flow dammed up one end of a stream. Even though this happened several hundred years ago, the water is so cold the forest that was covered up still exists under the surface. This is a popular place for divers.
