The dogwoods were in bloom, and it looked like a good year for dogwoods. Here is something I learned from the Mark Trail comic strip: The cross that Jesus was hung upon was made of dogwood. After that, God changed the dogwood into a spindly, brush-like tree so it could never be used to build a cross again. It is a legend, of course - the Bible never mentions the kind of wood used, but still, it is a good story.
