Negotiating the far buoy was tricky - it was straight to windward and if you turned too soon, you'd miss it. I was close enough to Jon to talk strategy as we approached. Then I panicked and cut to soon - my saving grace was that I quickly realized my mistake and tacked back out. Jon saw me flailing around and decided to swing a little wider.
It was sheer luck that I was able to recover from my mistake and still round the buoy ahead of John. We were now in a desperate run to the finish line. Jon's sail is right behind mine and he was breathing down my neck.
