I gybed as the stub of a leeboard dug into a sandbank, the boat went over, and I lost my VHF radio ($120) my extendable camera mount ($20) my 15-year-old Leatherman 'Flair' ($40 new but un-replaceable,) sunblock, water jug, and bucket (invaluable.) This was my first ever capsize, but it was also a portent of things to come.
