PDRs are very maneuverable and rather slow (compared to other racing sailboats.) To keep myself awake and to hone my sailing skills, I like to sail up to the channel markers and slap 'em as I go by.

The other PDR captains started doing it, too, and after a while, were noticed by other boats. They'd come by and ask "Why do you guys slap the buoys?" The answer is "Because I can . . and you can't."

Note: Rodney in his 21ft Aquarius took up buoy slapping as well.
Note note: Buoy slapping is stupid and dangerous. Don't do it.
