Mike wisely decided to leave the open Gulf and enter the protection of the ICW at the Venice Jetty. The people on shore stared at us like we were pirates or something.

It was a good thing we were so near Venice. As we sailed down the calm waters of the ICW, I saw a helicopter fly overhead with a rescue sling hanging underneath.

Both the Wayfarer and the lead Sea Pearl capsized shortly after we left the Gulf. Both crews were rescued by other people in the Everglades Challenge, but the Sea Pearl had to be abandoned. It was recovered the next day, having lost only it's mizzen mast and sail.
