We'd left the boat ramp just before noon, and it took us to about 3:30 to reach Point of Mustang island, where we'd have to choose our route: Intercoastal waterway (boring), Corpus Christi Bayou (done it in '08 and '09) or the Ship Channel. PDR's had never done the ship channel before - we'd always been scared of it. This year would be different. The rest of the fleet had taken the Ship Channel - why should we fear it? We might be slower, but there is not a production boat made that goes to windward better than a PDR. Screw the terrors of the ship channel, we were going in.
