| Jim Michalak (in yellow) and John Yacha sit on
Laguna Cinco's gunnels. Jim is the designer of the Laguna (and
many other boats) so it was neat to have him there. John is a cool
guy, too. If you look closely at the back bottom of the Laguna, you'll see the sole has separated from the sides. Andrew Tatton decided to test the strength of PL Premium, grabbed the gunnels, and put his weight against the floor. It pissed me off when he did it (if you weren't in on the construction of something, don't bust it up.) but it did yield some valuable info. The plywood used to make the sole was pre-primed, so the joint was not wood to wood. Everybody knows paint sticks to glue, but glue does not stick to paint. It had been the screws that had held the bottom of the boat on, the glue had just acted as a caulk. |
