I like to make all my mistakes at once, so I drew the taper on one wide strake, then clamped all the wide strakes together. I took great care to make sure the edges were as even as possible (the sticks really start to curl when you cut them from the original board.) I then used my power planer to do the taper. I repeated the process with the smaller sticks.
