Tom pulled in a little after the main body of the fleet, and David had gone on ahead to Skamokawa - our intended stopping place for the night. David called me and reported on the port at Skamokawa: There wasn't one. There was no place for us to tie up or even drop a hook for the night.
I repeated Dave's report to the rest of the fleet and they immediately called for staying at Cathlamet. I tried to argue that we should press on and suffer through the night somewhere, but they would have none of it. Facing near mutiny, I capitulated, telling them we needed a dawn launch time or we would all die in the wind and waves of Astoria Bay.
They all laughed and went off to take showers and dry their clothes.
