This picture is out of order, but I am tired of trying to find its rightful place. It is all that is left of the infamous "Come to Me" rock, the most deadly of all the rapids in the gorges. It was called "Come to Me" because you had to drive your boat towards it and use your inertia to ride the current around it. If, as many Western steamboat captains tried, you attempted to stay as far away as possible, you were slowly drawn in and capsized, usually killing everyone on board. Tough to learn from an experience like that, better to read about it. |
